Doesn’t the week just seem better after an Eagles win? With the Birds now 2-0, fans around the city are buzzing about the new look of the team. A part of the team’s new look includes rookie quarterback Carson Wentz and third-year wide receiver Jordan Matthews, who have not only bonded on the field, but off the field as well.

Following their week one win against the Cleveland Browns, in which he was targeted on nine of Carson Wentz’s 37 passes, Jordan Matthews explained the unlikely way in which the two young players developed a strong bond.

Matthews told the media in his post-game press conference that “bottom line we are trying to grow off the field” when speaking about he and his new starting quarterback. The third-year wide receiver is a big fan of music, so he tried to use that as an avenue to better understand Wentz. Matthews asked the young man from North Dakota “what do you listen to in North Dakota” because “I don’t know of any rappers from North Dakota.”

The answer………..Jason Aldean.

Matthews said that the album Wentz cited as his favorite was Aldean’s 2010 album My Kind of Party which featured the multi-platinum hit “Dirt Road Anthem.” Although he is more of a hip-hop fan, Matthews was familiar with Aldean and his music, since he went to college at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

“If I’m going to learn this guy’s mindset, I got to listen to his music,” Matthews said. “It was good. It was pretty good.”

The experiencing of each other’s music was not just a one way avenue. Matthews told the media that since he listened to Wentz’s favorite album, the quarterback in return listened to one of the wide receiver’s favorite albums, Kanye West’s 2007 double platinum Graduation.

The sharing of music must be working for the tandem. In two games this season, Wentz has targeted Matthews 23 times (completing 13 of them), or almost a third of this pass attempts. That is almost double of the next most targeted player, wide receiver Nelson Agholor (12).
