Sunday (November 20) night, Tim McGraw took his daughter Maggie to the 2016 American Music Awards and thank goodness he did because she had to explain to him who some of the people in attendance were.

In an interview at the awards show, McGraw revealed that his middle daughter Maggie, who was his date for the evening, had to explain to him who different people at the show were. One person who needed no explanation however was Lady Gaga who McGraw said his daughter met on the red carpet.

Another artist who McGraw knew was Bruno Mars, who he revealed he was a big fan of.

Prior to the event, McGraw shared a picture of his daughter and himself headed to the AMAs. “My date for the night” he captioned it.

During the awards show McGraw’s “Humble and Kind” took home the award for Favorite Country Song beating out the likes of “H.O.L.Y.” by Florida Georgia Line, and “Die A Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett.
