Athletes of all kind have that certain playlist that gets them ready for their big game, match, race etc. For NBA superstar Dwyane Wade, his playlist during his historic 2006 Finals run was filled with country music.

After a fan tried to take a shot at the NBA all-star on Twitter by mocking his wardrobe, Wade responded by embracing being different.

“What if I told you in 06 I listened to country music b4 every game that I score 40 in?,” Wade wrote. “Would that not be cool? I’m different you wanna fit in.”

Of course the 2006 season was a historic one for Wade as he led the Miami Heat to his and the franchise’s first NBA Championship. In the NBA Finals that year, a 24-year-old Wade scored 40-plus points twice in six games and averaged 34.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.7 steals in what is considered one of the greatest individual performances in modern NBA Finals history.

He also led the Heat from a 2-0 series deficit and was named the Finals MVP.

Wade is not the first athlete to listen to country music before a historic performance. Last summer, swimmer Michael Phelps revealed he likes to listen to Eric Church before his races. In the 2016 Olympics Phelps took home five gold medals and one silver.
