Kelsea Ballerini’s new album, “Unapologetically” dropped on Friday, and it is so much more than just a simple record. The album is intended to mirror the course her life has taken over the past few years. As you’re listening to “Unapologetically”, you’re reliving the story of Ballerini’s life, from breakups to loss to falling in love.
She describes the song as a chameleon, commenting how it has evolved from a break-up song to what is, in fact, a love song. She says, “To really properly move on, you have to acknowledge why you were in the relationship in the first place, and this was my song to do that. It’s my song to be, like, there were good things, there were moments… It’s a song about being in love, being nostalgic. ”
I think literally every person capable of listening to music would agree that certain songs are fluid…their meaning changes, depending on when they are heard and what is going on in the listener’s life at that moment. It’s easy to picture Ballerini penning a song originally intended to vent her sadness and anger over her breakup, and then coming to view it differently as she healed. Now that she’s past it and in love, “Legends” is about so much more.
Be sure to check out “Unapologetically” for a peek into the storyline that has been Kelsea Ballerini’s journey.
