Chris Lane packs up his truck, collects his new girl, and takes her home in a ritual we’ve all been through at least once. She meets his mom, they hang with his childhood friends, and…wouldn’t you know it?…he just keeps falling more deeply in love.
That’s the arc of the video that country star Chris Lane just released for “Take Back Home Girl”, a duet with pop star Tori Kelly.
The single, and now the video, illustrate exactly why musicians choose to collaborate, even if that collaboration crosses genres or typical musical categories. Lane is best known for the country album Girl Problems, released in August of 2016, and just launched his Take Back Home Girl tour last month. Kelly is a rising star signed to Capital Records who released her first full-length album Unbreakable Smile in 2015.
Tori Kelly might be way more pop princess than country gal, but the blend of the two styles, voices, and performances has definitely created something greater than the sum of its parts. What’s more, they’re putting forth a video that is something to which every one of us can relate, that universal experience of taking your new partner home to meet Mama…or, conversely, meeting the woman you hope will be your future mother-in-law!
