When you think Christmas Dinner, what comes to mind?  Turkey, a glazed ham, mashed potatoes?  That’s about where we are, too.  But we should have known a country star like Luke Bryan would have different plans entirely!

If we can borrow his latest album title, “What Makes You Country”, the thing that makes Luke Bryan the most country is…wait for it…his family-wide, all-day-preparation for a chili dog feast to mark the holiday!

Yup.  Chili dogs.  You read that right.

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last week, Luke discussed the tradition with Fallon in a lighthearted appearance that emphasized his country roots.  According to Bryan, he and his mother (I KNOW…how cute, right???) came up with the idea years ago, and it has since evolved into a family holiday tradition.

“I started a few years back, my mother and I, we kinda said, ‘Let’s do chili dogs on Christmas Eve.’ And my mother, it’s a thing because she wants to go shop like she’s turned it into an all-day event. It’s always been, ‘Luke, it’s 11. It’s time to go do our chili dog shopping,” Bryan shared.

He also joked that his mother’s cigarette ashes occasionally fall into the meal, but that must just be part of what makes him country, too!

Speaking of, Fallon poked some fun at Bryan’s album title, bouncing the question off the star himself.  Bryan responded, “Listen to me talk! It’s pretty much…that’s the stamp right there! Right there on the forehead—he’s country. Especially when I’m walking around New York City.”

What’s most important around the holidays, I’m sure you can agree, is family.  Every family is unique, with their own traditions and practices, and it’s absolutely adorable to get this glimpse into Luke Bryan’s celebration with the people he loves the most.  While we may not be throwing down on the chili dogs on Christmas Eve, I think there’s no question about what makes Luke country this season!
