What a sweet surprise to find this morning!
We came in in the bitter cold to find Chesney, the 92.5 XTU Elf on the Shelf, was embracing other cultures and traditions…namely, the eight nights of Hanukkah!
Now, I think we can all rest assured where Chesney’s allegiance lies. After all, he’s an elf. He’s pretty much solidly in Santa territory. But he’s also a very accepting, tolerant, and open-minded elf, and it appears he wanted to learn something about the Jewish holiday that starts on the Hebrew date of 25 Kislev.
Last night at sundown was the first of the eight nights, a holiday known as the “Festival of Lights” which celebrates the Maccabean Revolt against the Greek emperor Antiochus and the re-dedication of the Jewish temple at which the miracle of the oil occurred.
Chesney clearly wanted in on the action, as we found him on the traditional Menorah used to symbolically mark the eight nights. His Hebrew isn’t really up to par yet, we’re guessing, so he probably lit the (electric) menorah without a prayer, but we’re so happy he’s being inclusive, it doesn’t even matter!
Thank you, Chesney, for helping us to celebrate Hanukkah. If we could all put our differences aside, and recognize our common human connection, the world would be a much better place…and it all starts with the Elf on the Shelf!
