Blake Shelton had an astonishingly good 2017.
In fact, Blake ranked # 1 in two categories, both “Top Male Artist” and “Top Overall Artist.” The ranking was reported by Mediabase, which measures and tallies nationwide radio airplay across all stations.
The top overall artists are:
- Blake Shelton
- Thomas Rhett
- Brett Young
- Jason Aldean
- Florida Georgia Line
Luke Combs took home “Best New Artist”, while Florida Georgia Line was the top duo or group for the fifth year in a row.
One result of the report, however, has some fans questioning, yet again, the gender diversity in country radio. While Maren Morris was the top played female artist, followed by Kelsea Ballerini, Lauren Alaina, Carrie Underwood, and Carly Pearce, the report revealed that only 15.7 percent of females earned charted songs in 2017, as opposed to the 66.2 percent of males who make appearances on the charts.
Additionally, 24 men scored chart-toppers while only three women did the same. There were only five females who posted Top 15 singles throughout 2017, which is actually less than there even was in 2016. There were also no females at all in the overall category’s Top 10 artists.
However, none of that should overshadow Blake’s accomplishments, and NUMEROUS hits over the past year. He is one of the most hard-working artists in country music, and it is a well-deserved honor to get that kind of radio play. Congratulations to Blake, Maren, and all the top artists in 2017!
