It should come as no surprise that Blake Shelton is giving back to the town that raised him.
Last Saturday, Blake performed two separate shows at his own Ole Red Restaurant in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, his very own hometown. He then donated all of the money from ticket sales directly to the city, intended for updates and improvements to the public Pennington Park.
Pennington is located in Tishomingo itself, on the banks of the Pennington Creek. It is a full 15 acres, with a splash pad, RV hookups, a boat ramp, designated walking trails, and a swimming hole where it’s free for anyone to swim.
Blake’s $50,000 donation will be used to update the splash pad and add some new features reminiscent of a water park.
Says Blake, “It’s hard to imagine right now, as I’m freezing to death in Tishomingo, (that) we’re going to add water park things to Pennington Park!”
The city hopes the improvements will be completed by the opening of the 2018’s park season, which is May to September.
Forever humble, you won’t be surprised to hear Blake downplaying his huge role in this generous act for the good of the city. He mentioned to reporters, “”I’m kind of in the position where I’ve got the easy part. I just go, ‘Hey, I’m gonna do these two shows and I’ll raise the money and then you city people figure out how to do this.'”
Do the shows he did, and then presented the super-sized check to city officials. Residents of Tishomingo will have the country star to thank next summer as they’re swimming, slipping, sliding, and cavorting on brand-new water features in a clean, family-friendly environment.
Isn’t it just like a country star to give back to the community? Oklahoma is lucky to have birthed Blake Shelton!
